Winding Down with German Cuisine

11 Nov

As part of a way for us roommates to get to know each other a bit more, we have decided to share our own favorite ethnic cuisines. Tonight was German Cuisine Night!!!

When you think of German Cuisine, what comes to mind? Do you think of those huge Bavarian pretzels, lots of beer, sauerkraut and sausages? My initial thoughts of German cuisine consisted of meat based meals full of bratwurst and potatoes. But boy was I wrong in guessing what Maria and Hannah had up their sleeve when it came to cooking a delicious, just like their German home, meal.

After hunting down for spaetzle (and failing) my roommates came back from SweetBay Grocery with Egg Noodles, Mushrooms, Light Cream, Red Pepper, Zucchini, Shallots, and Wine (Reisling 2008).

Their mission: Make a modified version of Spätzle Sahnesauce

Included is a brief video of our meal layout (The Microwave comment is an inside joke. We have a history of burning things in the Microwave)

Verdict: The dish was creamy (but not too creamy) and flavorful with the wonderful medley of vegetables laddled together with the noodles. Accompanied included a fresh chopped romaine hearts salad with Riesling Wine. Dessert was not photographed/filmed, but was scrumptious maple walnut icecream with a warm berry sauce drizzled over.

Delicious Meal Indeed!  But now I have to figure out how to up the ante and come up with a delicious Korean meal. =)

After a tough week, settling in on a Wednesday evening with such sweet friends was the perfect end. We also concluded the meal by watching “Love and Distrust” a multiple story movie featuring some big name actors (James Franco/Robert Pattinson/Robert Downey Jr.). The movie was… ehh? Not my favorite.

Hope you have a wonderful Veteran’s Day!
